Four teens - ages 16, 15, 15, and 14 - from the Washington, DC area are all facing charges following an incident in Oxon Hill when they failed to carjack a woman before fleeing in a stolen vehicle, according to officials.
At approximately 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, a spokesperson for the Prince George’s County Police Department said that officers were called to the 1500 block of Iverson Street when a woman was pushed to the ground by the teens as she got out of her Kia while they attempted to steal her sedan.
The teens took her keys, police say, but when they got inside they were thwarted by a steering wheel lock that was in place following the recent rash of similar stolen vehicles throughout the region.
They then fled into the Kia Soul they arrived in, which also happened to be stolen.
Within an hour, officers were able to track down the stolen ride, which was tracked to the 4800 block of Indian Head Highway, at which point the four minors bailed out of the vehicle, though none of them made it far following short foot chases.
Two loaded handguns were also recovered when the teens were arrested.
Three of the teens were taken to a juvenile detention facility and the 16-year-old is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. All are facing attempted carjacking and related charges for their roles in the incident.
